- Frank Sampedro
Frank "Pancho" Sampedro (born
February 25 ,1949 ) is an American musician and member of therock and roll band Crazy Horse, known mainly for its longtime collaboration with legendary singer-songwriterNeil Young .Born in
West Virginia and raised inDetroit , Sampedro moved toCalifornia as soon as he was old enough to drive. Having spent the next few years playing in different bands, Sampedro joined Crazy Horse in 1975 to record "Zuma", after being introduced to the band byBilly Talbot around 1972, following the death of guitaristDanny Whitten . With the addition of Sampedro, Crazy Horse developed a new, more rigid sound (as opposed to the bluesy sound of the Whitten era), which enabled Neil Young to evolve his skill as a lead guitarist.Lately, he has been working on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" with bandleader
Kevin Eubanks running the MIDI board.for the music production.Gear
Sampedro usually uses the
Gibson Les Paul and theGibson ES-335 , with a heavy set of strings (0.055' to 0.012' with a wound G string [http://www.thrasherswheat.org/ptma/equip.htm An interview with Neil Young in which he discusses his and Crazy Horse's equipment choices.] ] ).Discography
