* "Ventastega curonica""Ventastega" was a "
Tiktaalik "-like tetrapodomorph that lived during the LateDevonian (Famennian ). "Ventastega" probably lived inswamp s orfreshwater lake s. Like "Tiktaalik", "Ventastega" was probably more aquatic than terrestrial.Per Ahlberg , a professor ofevolution arybiology atUppsala University inSweden reported in "Nature" that limbs, not fins were attached to "Ventastega" based on theanatomy of key parts of itspelvis and itsshoulder s. Thefossil s reported were found inLatvia . They are 365 million years old. Askull , shoulders, and part of the pelvis of the "Ventastega curonica" were found. They indicate it was moretetrapod thanfish and looked similar to a smallalligator . The discovery contributes to the understanding of the evolutionary transition from fish to tetrapods, theanimal s with four limbs, whose descendents includeamphibian s,reptile s,dinosaur s andbird s, andmammal s).
