Tony Humes (born
March 19 ,1966 in Blyth is an English ex-footballer and current Academy Manager at Ipswich Town.In his club career, spanning from 1985 to 1999, he played for Ipswich Town and Wrexham. Following retirement from playing he joined the Ipswich Town youth academy as Assistant Director and was later promoted to Academy Manager in 2006 when his predecessor,
Bryan Klug , was promoted to the position of first team coach.Playing history
He started his playing career at Ipswich where he played just 140 times and scoring 12 goals between 1985 and 1992, enduring a series of potentially career ending injuries in that time. In March 1992 he signed for Wrexham for £40,000 where he played out the rest of his career, retiring in October 1999, having played 246 games and scoring 10 goals.
He was a tough tackling defender; the series of injuries he suffered often leading from the fearless challenges he made, but sadly resulting in his notoriously disrupted playing career.
