Adi Maia Bichman (born
February 5 ,1983 ) is a freestyle and medleyswimmer fromIsrael , who was a member of the Israeli swimming team at the2000 Summer Olympics inSydney, Australia .There she competed in three events. She placed 26th in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 5:06.72 (personal best of 4:53.67), 38th in the 400m Freestyle (4:27.33), and 25th in the 800m Freestyle (9:01.90).
At the age of 16, Bichman competed in the 1999 European Junior Championships and won the bronze medal in the both the 800m Freestyle and the 400m Individual Medley.
The following year at the European Championships for seniors in
Helsinki, Finland , she finished fifth in the 800m Freestyle with an Israeli record of 8:47.59.In the spring of 2001, Bichman signed a letter of intent to attend
Rice University inTexas on a swimming scholarship.Bichman had a good first year at Rice during the 2001-02 season. A versatile swimmer, she competed in both the freestyle and individual medley events. During the season, she had Rice's fastest time in the 1,650-yard Freestyle (16:45.95 – only ten seconds off the school record), had the third fastest time in the 500-yard Freestyle (4:55.81), and the fourth fastest in the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:24.94).
