Shogun of Harlem (character)

Shogun of Harlem (character)

Sho'nuff is a fictional character played by Julius Carry in Berry Gordy's 1985 action film, "The Last Dragon". He is the self-proclaimed "Shogun of Harlem".

Dressed in a Shogun costume, he travels around with a posse of street thugs. He spends his time challenging random people to fights, and taunts young "Bruce" Leroy Green (Taimak) to fight him throughout the movie.

His famous signature monologue:

Sho’Nuff: Am I the meanest?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Am I the prettiest?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Am I the baddest mo-fo, low-down, around this town?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Well, who am I?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Who am I?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: I can’t hear you!
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: The Shogun of Harlem!

In popular culture

* Busta Rhymes included a nod to Sho'nuff with his music video for "Dangerous".
* Sho-Nuff is also the name of a member of the rap-duo Da BackWudz. The rapper refers to himself as the "Shogun of the South," a likely nod to the film.
* Sho' Nuff is also the name of a Fatboy Slim song.
* Sho' Nuff is also the name of the record label founded by Jazze Pha.
* Referenced in The Venture Bros. episode "Assassinanny 911." During a sparring match, Dean shouts "Who da master?" Hank stabs him in the foot with a pencil and replies "Sho'Nuff!"
* Referenced in a promo that Taimak did for Ring of Honor Wrestling's "Best In The World" show (March 25, 2006) where he paraphased the questions for the audience (for example, "Who's the meanest? Who's the prettiest? Who's the baddest mo-fo, low-down, around this town?"). Unfortunately, it backfired when the crowd played the gang verbatim and answered back, "Sho'Nuff!"
