Toad in the hole

Toad in the hole

:"Toad in the hole is also the name of a pub game. See Entombed animal for the paranormal phenomenon." Toad in the hole is a traditional English dish comprising sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter, usually served with vegetables and gravy.

The origin of the name 'Toad-in-the-Hole' is vague. Most suggestions are that the dish's resemblance to a toad sticking its little head out of a hole provide the dish with its somewhat unusual name. Other meanings

Toad in the hole is used by some in the United States to describe a different dish, consisting of a chicken's egg fried in a hole cut in a slice of bread. This dish originated in England, but is most commonly referred to there as egg in the basket, though there are many name variations in both countries and possibly elsewhere.
