Macleod College is a co-educational, Prep to Year Twelve school located on the corner of May and Carwarp Streets, Macleod,
Melbourne, Australia . The College grew out of the merger of Macleod High School and Macleod Primary School in 2000.Macleod College is in the heart of the small and fairly private suburb of Macleod, with many benefits of a village atmosphere. It is adjacent to a train station and bus routes. There is a history of strong academic achievement and the school is currently in the process of strengthening its curriculum. School Council voted recently to reject a proposed merger with 6 other schools, in part because of its strong reputation as a school of excellence. Students travel from over 20 different suburbs to attend the school.
Macleod College offers music, international and enrichment programs.
Karen Ellis Student Sexual Relationship Controversy
Macleod College made Australia-wide news in 2004, when
physical education teacher Karen Louise Ellis was convicted of having had repeated, unprotected unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old student at her North Eltham home while her husband was away in October and November of 2003. Macleod has ten different bands; Concert Bands, String Orchestra, String Works, Big Band, Bug Band, WeBop, Jazz Combos, a Flute Ensemble and Rock Bands. The school has high quality teachers who instruct students in over twenty instruments including the drums, flute, cello, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, clarinet and the English horn.
Macleod College also has a vocal teacher, educated in primary, secondary and tertiary education, who leads their choir.
Enrichment Programs
City Experience
Each year, year 9 students go on a 'city experience'. This is an educational program designed to educate the students on different aspects of the city, the people, the architecture, the music and other aspects of the Melbourne CBD. They spend one week traveling the city.
Students also visit youth radio station
SYN FM , help serve meals atThe Salvation Army , and visit theRialto Towers , the Golden Walk,Federation Square , museums and art galleries.yn Fm
While on city experience, students visit
SYN FM , the local youth radio station. Students are now trying to get the school radio running again, and a group of students now broadcast music and discussion through the school's canteen.Aspire: Skate Safe Workshop
Working with the
Banyule City Council , the students have organised a skateboarding competition. The students now have 40 people participating and financial support for the event.World Vision
Macleod has supported
World Vision for many years with students participating in the Forty-Hour Famine, out of uniform days and selling Make Poverty History bracelets.In 2007, more activities have been organised. Grade 5 and 6 students will participate in 'No Furniture Day', and the school will host guest speakers.
Ride, Walk, Skate and Scoot to School Day
A group of year 8 students organised this event to help the environment. They presented their idea, and made promotional materials and competitions. Over 200 students took part in the event.

Many students have organised themselves into groups to door-knock and raise money for the
Good Friday Appeal .International Studies
Macleod College offers students a chance to go on a European Tour, consisting of five weeks visiting
Cologne ,Heidelberg ,Salzburg ,Strasburg ,Vienna ,Netherlands ,Holland ,Bavaria and other neighbouring areas. The school also offers an exchange program for two weeks to six months, staying with a host family and studying at the Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium in Düsseldorf.ister school
Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium
Macleod College's sister school in Düsseldorf, Germany, is the Geschwister Scholl Gymansium (GSG). The GSG has students from 30 different countries, and sister schools in Russia, France, Israel and Australia. The GSG also have an exchange program in which they send twenty students to Australia for two to four weeks, spending time learning about Australian culture, traditions and language.
Hauibei Experimental School
Hauibei is Macleod's sister school from the
Anhui province in China. Each year, a group of students come to take part in activities at Macleod College. While staying in Australia, the students are paired up with Australian students for school classes and home stay.Noteworthy former students
