Sante Uberto Barbieri was a
Bishop of The Methodist Church, elected in 1949. A native ofItaly , he was elected Bishop by theLatin American Central Conference of the Church. He was assigned the work of the Church inArgentina ,Bolivia andUruguay .Barbieri held
Bachelor's ,Master's andDivinity degrees fromSouthern Methodist University . He also held aMaster's degree fromEmory University . Prior to his election to the Episcopacy, Rev. Barbieri served inBrazil and Argentina. In 1954 Bishop Barbieri also was one of sixPresidents elected to seven-year terms in theWorld Council of Churches .In 1924 he married Odette de Oliveira (who died in 1983). They had four children. Bishop Barbieri lived in
Buenos Aires in retirement. He died there Wednesday, 13 February 1991. He was 90 years old.References
