Gerard Sweetman

Gerard Sweetman (10 June 1908 – 28 January 1970), was an Irish Fine Gael politician and lawyer.

Sweetman was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at Beaumont and Trinity College, Dublin. He became a solicitor in 1930 and built up a large practice. He became a member of Fine Gael and sat in Seanad Éireann between 1943 and 1948. In the 1948 general election he was elected to Dáil Éireann for the Kildare constituency and remained a TD until his death. Between 1954 and 1957 he served as Minister for Finance in the Second Inter-Party Government. He appointed T. K. Whitaker Secretary General of The Department of Finance, and head of the Irish civil service.fact|date=December 2007
