- Ozz
David "Ozz" Osborne (born
December 13 ,1979 , inMelbourne , Victoria) is anAustralian rock musician. He was the creator and drummer of the sludge/stoner/doom bandClagg from 2002 until he left in February 2006. He has also played in other bands around Melbourne including Sterling Moss and Choast, and helped to manage and organise local shows for a few bands. He has also been a radio DJ on shows in Melbourne on 3MU and SYN-FM.Early days
Growing up with a strong love for music Ozz started high school and jumped at the chance to learn electric guitar. However from showing almost no interest in learning sheet music and music he had never heard, Ozz was forced out of guitar lessons in Year 8 and was told by his teacher he'd "never become a musician". But continuing to play guitar he began to self teach himself songs that he did have an interest in. After a while he developed the knack of learning songs by ear and also naturally picked up playing drums without having any lessons to teach him how. Following from the three years of playing guitar, in the last 3 years of high school he played bass in two bands at school and developed a knack for writing tunes.
Clagg
With a talent for all instruments he formed
Clagg in 2002 after his previous band Choast disbanded and he was unable to find a drummer to fill the hole. Switching to drums he taught Vman how to play guitar and enlisted Tom for lead guitar and Ash for bass guitar before roping in Choast bass player Ben for vocals. At the same time as Clagg was starting to put the wheels in motion in January 2003 he was asked to play bass guitar for Sterling Moss and stayed for about 6 months, recording a 4 song demo with some writing and backup vocals, and playing a few shows around Melbourne before making the decision to leave and focus all attention on
Clagg .Ozz wrote a few songs for
Clagg and even introducing a few he had written while playing in Choast. "Fruitcake" was written with Ben and "Choasted" was written in the small time between the two bands.Clagg played a number of live shows before losing two members of the band, Ben and Ash. Ben's position was attempted to be replaced by Adam B. Doom with no success, this was despite the fact that Adam is an attractive piece of man meat, well versed in the dark arts. Soon after Ash's position was available and having played guitar for a number of years, just like Ozz had previously done, Adam swapped over to bass guitar and was welcomed into the band. Ben's position was then filled by Scotty, previously a member of Process Of Elimination, a band Clagg played along with the first time they played at The Green Room. Clagg shows continued with this lineup until December 2004.
Health Problems
In December 2004 a
Hemorrhagic stroke , followed by rehabilitation and finally surgery (April 1 ,2005 ) put Ozz out of action inClagg until May 2005. For the rest of the year he played drums withClagg , playing shows with Peeping Tom, The Eternal, Synthetic Breed and Pod People. In October 2005Clagg supported UK doom lordsElectric Wizard with Canberra's Pod People in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne with Ozz sharing the same kit each night with Justin Greaves (ex-Iron Monkey). After the Melbourne support show Ozz headed back up to Sydney and Brisbane to see the final shows of the tour.A few more Clagg shows followed over the summer but some slight health problems continuing Ozz decided with the rest of the band that pounding the drums every week for such an intense heavy band wasn't the best idea for him anymore. The decision was amicable and Ozz left the band in February 2006.
Since then Ozz has been working on solo material for a future release.
