- Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert's Land
The Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert's Land was founded in 1875 and is one of four
ecclesiastical province s in theAnglican Church of Canada . The territory covered by the province is roughly coterminous with the western portion of the formerHudson's Bay Company concession ofRupert's Land , as well as theNorth-Western Territory ofBritish North America . It today consists of the present day provinces ofAlberta ,Saskatchewan , andManitoba , as well as the extreme western portion ofOntario . It also includes all of the territories ofNunavut and theNorthwest Territories .At almost 6.5 million square
kilometre s, it is the largest ecclesiastical province by area in the country, and was even larger in the past. TheDiocese of Moosonee was joined to theEcclesiastical Province of Ontario in 1912; until it formed its own ecclesiastical province in 1914, the five dioceses inBritish Columbia were part of Rupert's Land; and until 1943 (when it joined the Province of British Columbia), so was the Diocese of Selkirk (afterward, theDiocese of Yukon ).There are presently ten dioceses in the province:

* "Qu'Appelle" (Saskatchewan ) (corresponding to the pre-1905 District of Assiniboia in the Northwest Territories)
* "Rupert's Land" (Manitoba)
* "Saskatchewan" (Saskatchewan)

Provinces of the Anglican Church of Canada are headed by a Metropolitan, elected from among the province's diocesan
bishop s. This bishop then becomes Archbishop of his or her diocese and Metropolitan of the Province.The Province is currently without a Metropolitan since the resignation of the Most Rev.
John R. Clarke , who resigned as Metropolitan but is continuing as Archbishop of Athabasca. The current acting Metropolitan is BishopDonald D. Phillips who is Bishop of Rupert's Land.ee also
