Atascocita High School is a secondary school located in Atascocita, a community located in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States.

Atascocita, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Humble Independent School District. Atascocita has a Humble, Texas address but is not located in Humble. Atascocita serves small portions of the city of Houston.

Atascocita High School opened in August, 2006 with grades 9-11 and since the fall of 2007 has served grades 9-12.

History

In 2003 voters in the Humble Independent School District approved a $230 million bond issue which called for the addition a new high school in the growing Atascocita community. Up until 2006, the Atascocita area had been zoned for Humble High School. With growth in the Atascocita area, Humble High School's enrollment exploded to over 4,000 students creating the need for Atascocita High School. Construction on the convert|425000|sqft|m2|sing=on building began in May 2004 on a 99 acre site next to West Lake Houston Parkway and a future extension of Will Clayton Parkway. The completion of this extension was completed in September 2006.

PBK Architects Inc. of Houston, Texas designed the $46.9 million school. The architects used Thomas Jefferson's Monticello as inspiration for the look of the school. It was named as one of the "Top 25 Texas Constructions" in 2005 by Texas Construction. The building is designed around four communities (Red, White, Blue, and Gold) and eight houses. Students spend most of their school day within their community, where they attend core academic classes of English, math, science and social studies. This arrangement allows house principals, counselors and teachers to work together to personalize learning for students.

It is currently Humble ISD's largest high school, enrolling over 3,000 students. The construction of the district's sixth high school, Summer Creek HS, will relieve the growing population at Atascocita.

Dr. Lawrence Kohn was the school's principal from 2006 to mid August 2008, but left for a position at Sam Houston State University. Former associate principal Dania Rovegno was promoted to principal soon after.
