Industry and Parliament Trust

The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT), based in Whitehall, London, close to the UK Parliament, fosters better mutual understanding between the worlds of Parliament and business. It operates as an independent, non-partisan, non-lobbying, not-for-profit organisation that facilitates educational exchange Fellowships for MPs, MEPs, Peers and Officers of both Houses of Parliament at Westminster with a range of participating companies from most sectors of business and industry. Fellows of the Industry and Parliament Trust include include Geoff Hoon, David Blunkett, Edward Leigh, Baroness Virginia Bottomley of Nettlestone and Dr Evan Harris.

For those in industry, the IPT runs a range of educative programmes explaining the legislative process in both the UK and EU parliaments. In addition, the IPT arranges attachment schemes for Civil Servants, enabling them to see the parliamentary processes at first hand in the company of an MP.

The IPT is a member of the International Association of Business and Parliament and has sister projects in Wales (Industry and National Assembly for Wales Association), Scotland (Scottish Parliament Business Exchange) and Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Assembly and Business Trust). A recently launched scheme also exists for the European Parliament (European Business and Parliament Scheme).
