Kunming International Academy (KIA) is a private international school in Kunming, People's Republic of China. Founded in 1994, it serves the international community by providing education in English for PreKindergarten-Grade 12. The school has an enrollment of over 200 students from over 20 different countries, including the United States, Korea, Australia, Austria, Benin, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.
KIA uses an American curriculum and is accredited by WASC, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is a member of the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS).
KIA graduates have been accepted at Baylor University, Biola University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Grand Canyon University, Houghton College, Liberty University, New Mexico State University, Seattle Pacific University, Tufts University and the University of Florida, among others.
The Kunming International Academy will move to its new campus in the year 2008. It will be located in the Economic and Technological Development Zone, which is the government think tank's recent step to develop the land-locked city. KIA's move to this place will assist in the government's hopes to attract foreign investments into the area, providing these investors' children with an established American education.
