- Tastyhead
Tastyhead are an English punk band, inspired by bands such as
The Stooges ,The Ramones andShellac . They were formed in May 2003 inHereford .Tastyhead were formed by Edd Tipton (
guitar and vocals) and Hugh Pawsey (drum s), bringing in Tipton's college friend Ryan Amos (bass guitar ) in May 2004. They played their first gig on14 June 2004 atThe Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, playing only foursong s. The first public gig (supporting local band,Hostile Agenda ) was offered to them three hours before doors opened. As Tastyhead had not rehearsed (or even seen each other) since the first gig, they had to make four songs last half an hour. After this shambolic show the band started rehearsing and writing original material. Many line-up changes occurred during the band's first year until they brought in Matt Rees on guitar and Ben Davies on bass (both ex Hostile Agenda).
In December 2006 Tastyhead released their first record, "Meat", a seven-track EP featuring the following songs: "Frustration," "Through With You," "Don't Give A Shit," "Meat," "Newton Farm," "Burberry Blood" and "Trailer Trash."
At the end of July 2007 they parted company with longtime drummer Hugh Pawsey. Their current drummer is Paul Phillips, also a member of the Herefordshire band the Dandelion Killers.
Tastyhead were the subject of controversy when the song "Newton Farm" from their debut EP offended the inhabitants of a Hereford District of the same name. The group were invited onto
BBC Hereford & Worcester 's breakfast show and Friday Session programmes to defend the song. This appearance offended more listeners when the group jokingly described their typical fan as "fourteen, on drugs and easy".They are currently working on material for a new EP tentatively titled "Electric Wheelchair Land" (due to commence recording mid 2008) and should include "Why Are We Alive", "(She's Got) Daddy's Eyes", "Surgery" and "The Wheelchair Song (A Song For John Newman)".
