Rappaport Vassiliadis soya peptone broth is used as an
growth medium for the isolation of "Salmonella " and "Shigella " species It is not recommended for the enrichment of "Salmonella" Typhi, and should not be used in cases of suspectedtyphoid fever . It is an alternative toselenite broth . It is not associated with potentialteratogenicity problems seen with the use of selenite broth. It enriches salmonellas because they are better able to survive the highosmotic pressure in the medium and because they can multiply at relatively lower pH and higher temperatures compared with other gut bacteria.
