Warwick Manufacturing Group

Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) is part of the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, engaging in research in manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, the built environment, renewables, and horticulture. WMG's Director is Professor Lord Bhattacharyya.

The group also provides taught and research degrees for both full-time postgraduate and part-time post-experience students and in overseas centres in China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

History

WMG was founded by Lord Bhattacharyya as Warwick Manufacturing Group in 1980 with the aim of reinvigorating UK manufacturing through innovative research and knowledge transfer.

The group was rebranded to WMG in 2007 as the Group diversified into new sectors; nevertheless, it is still principally engaged in novel applications for manufacturing research.

In 2001 WMG began work on the £72 million Premium Automotive Research and Development Programme. This was funded by Advantage West Midlands [ [http://www.advantagewm.co.uk Advantage West Midlands] ] and matched by the main partner, Jaguar Cars.

Future

In 2008 WMG will complete the construction of its fourth building and begin another major research programme - the Warwick Digital Lab. [ [http://www.warwickdigital.org.uk Warwick Digital Lab at the University of Warwick] ] This will take some of the core manufacturing expertise of WMG, mix it with expertise brought in with some new professors, and apply it to the fields of digital manufacturing and digital healthcare.
