Biography

Louie Giglio was born in 1958 and grew up in a Christian home in Atlanta, Georgia.Vara, Richard. (February 17, 2006) South Florida Sun-Sentinel "Speaker tries to give students a spiritual lift." Section: Showtime; Page 27.] One morning at 2 AM during his freshman year at Georgia State University in 1977, he decided to follow Christ instead of the party life. That conscious decision led him to become one of the architects of the modern worship style geared towards young people with its emphasis on informal attire, expressive worship and low-key, visually driven sermons.

After Giglio graduated from Georgia State University, he earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.Christ Notes. (2007) " [http://www.christnotes.org/_louie-giglio.asp Louie Giglio Books and Ministry] " Accessed: September 29, 2007.] After finishing seminary, Giglio and his wife Shelley began a weekly Bible study called Choice Ministries at Baylor University. After several years, over ten percent of the student body was attending the weekly study.Farias, Andree. (April 25, 2005) Christianity Today " [http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/interviews/2005/louiegiglio-0405.html A Passion for the Christ] "] He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry at Grace Theological Seminary.

In 1995, the Giglios moved from Waco, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia due to the failing health of Louie's father. While flying from Texas to Georgia, Giglio prayed and asked God what he had in store for his life at this point. His prayers were answered by instructions to start a national gathering of Christian college students; this evolved into the Passion movement and Passion Conferences. Desiring to reach across denomination and ministry lines, Louie began 7:22, a Bible study designed to reach and impact single adults in the metro Atlanta area. Functioning under the umbrella of the local church, unites 3,000 singles weekly for worship and teaching. Christ Notes. The Passion Movement is based on Louie's life verse, Isaiah 26:8 - "Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts" (from the New International Version).

As a part of the Passion movement, Louie also heads up Sixsteprecords, a partnership with Sparrow Records.

In January 1997, Passion hosted its first conference for college students, which lasted four days in Austin, Texas. Two thousand people attended. This launched Passion to the public and it has been followed by conferences and tours yearly. The Passion conferences hosted in January 2005 and 2006 drew thousands of college students to Nashville. In 2000, Giglio and others formed Sixsteps Records, a record label for Christian worship artists. Sixsteps' list of signed artists includes David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, and Charlie Hall. It also releases live albums from the Passion conferences.Delgados, Berta. In 2007, over 22,000 students gathered in Atlanta, GA, where the missions focused on their "Do Something Now" campaign. This raised $1,500,000 for global ministries on six continents. Giglio and the Passion ministry plan on holding regional events around the US in late 2007 and early 2008, and then go to the nations of the world in 2008 with the Passion World Tour.

On May 11, 2008, Chris Tomlin announced that he is leaving his church to start a new church in Atlanta, Georgia with Giglio. [Tomlin, Chris (May 11, 2008) [http://human3rror.com/2008/05/11/chris-tomlin-leaving-austin-stone/] ]

Louie confirmed this rumor on the Passion podcast on June 27,2008, but emphasized that there is no timetable or definitive plans to share.

Louie is the author of The Air I Breathe: Worship as a Way of Life and I Am Not but I Know I Am: Little Me, Infinite God, Amazing Life.

Louie and his wife, Shelley, are members of North Point Community Church, where he occasionally speaks. They reside outside of Atlanta, GA.
