HMS Gurkha

Four ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS "Gurkha", after a people who originate in Nepal and who serve with distinction in the British Army as part of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

*The first "Ghurka" was a destroyer that served with The Dover Patrol.
*The second "Gurkha" (L20/F20) was a Tribal-class destroyer laid down by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Limited, at Govan in Scotland on 6 July 1936, launched on 7 July 1937 and commissioned on 21 October 1938.
*The third "Gurkha" (F63/G63) was an L class destroyer built by Cammell Laird & Co Ltd at Birkenhead.
*The last "Gurkha" (F122) was a Tribal-class frigate, decommissioned from the Royal Navy in 1984, being sold to Indonesia.
