Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra ( _ar. العيون بوجدور الساقية الحمراء) is one of the sixteen
regions of Morocco . It covers an area of 139,480 km² and has a population of 256,152 (2004 census). The capital of the region isEl Aaiún . Due to ongoing dispute overWestern Sahara , most of the area is disputed with thePolisario Front which claims control of the area east of the Moroccan Berm.The region is made up into the following provinces:
