Stuart Dew (born 18 August 1979 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a Australian rules footballer for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League.

He debuted with the Port Adelaide Football Club in 1997, their inaugural year in the AFL, but it wasn't until the 1998 season that he received regular selection. He was occasionally criticised for his lack of dedication on the training track; however as he matured, Dew became an important player for the Power as evidenced during the 2004 season when he booted 31 goals and was a part of the club's premiership.

The 2005 season saw Dew play a running half-back role and played in all 24 games for Port. He complemented Port recruit Nathan Lonie, in that they played similar roles.

Dew was most recognised for his "raking" (as described by many commentators) left-foot kicks, which would often reach over 50 metres. The runs generated by Dew often lead to many goals from outside the 50-metre arc.

On November 6 2006, Dew announced his retirement from the AFL. [http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,20710396-21545,00.html Dew hangs up superboots] "The Adelaide Advertiser," November 6, 2006.] .

Despite not playing football at any level during 2007, Dew announced his intentions to come out of retirement to pursue an AFL career again. He nominated himself for the 2007 AFL National draft and was selected by the Hawthorn Football Club with its third round selection (#45 overall). He won a second premiership with the Hawthorn Football Club on 27th September 2008, playing an important role in a 3rd quarter comeback against pre-game favourites Geelong.

Famous Goals

Stuart Dew is known for his ability to score goals from outside 50 but one of his most memorable goals came at AAMI Stadium against Essendon in 2005.He scored a stunning soccer goal 40 metres out from goal, earning a Goal Of The Year nomination.

Personal life

He has previously been romantically involved with Australian actress Teresa Palmer. Dew lives in Melbourne Fact|date=July 2008. Stuart is also part-owner of the Hyde Park Tavern Fact|date=July 2008. Dew was a student at Enfield High School prior to his AFL career.Fact|date=July 2008

Potential Prime Minister?

Despite Stuart as yet not disclosing any indication of political preference, there has been significant speculation recently that he may have a tilt at the Prime Minister's seat once he concludes his AFL playing career. [http://www.theage.com.au/national/dew-to-be-pm-speculation.html Speculation rife - Dew to be PM] "The Age ," September 30, 2008.] . This speculation has received broad support around the country Fact|date=September 2008(particularly in Dew's home state of South AustraliaFact|date=September 2008), aided by Dew's near best on ground performance in the 2008 AFL Grand Final, numerous seemingly improbable romantic ties to drop dead gorgeous actressesFact|date=September 2008, and his tremendous ability to consume piesFact|date=September 2008.
