Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (a subsidiary of MGIC Investment Corporation) NYSE: MTG is a provider of private mortgage insurance in the United States.[citation needed]
In addition to mortgage insurance, MGIC provides lenders with various underwriting and other services and products related to home mortgage lending.
The company is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where it was founded in 1957 by Max Karl. He was a real estate agent who noticed that his clients had trouble with paying for their new homes. Karl believed that it would be better if there was a company that could insure the top part of the mortgage not all of it.
Honors
In early 2011, MGIC was named by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as the number 2 best large workplace (over 500 employees) in Southeastern Wisconsin. Kwik Trip was the number one, in front of MGIC.
