Chott

In geology, chott or shebka (of the former the spelling is French, it is pronounced, and sometimes spelled, shott; from Arabic šaṭṭ شط "bank, coast", from a root šṭṭ "exceed, deviate") is a dry (salt) lake in the Saharan area of Africa that stays dry in the summer, but receives some water in the winter. This water may come as a groundwater discharge, for example from the Bas Saharan Basin.
