Palmerston North Boys' High School is a state secondary school for boys located in Palmerston North Hospital Area, Palmerston North, New Zealand.

History

In 1902, Palmerston North High School was begun as a co-ed secondary school with an initial roll of 84 students (40 boys and 44 girls, the first person being on the roll was a girl). The first classes were held at St Andrews Presbyterian Church Sunday School hall. In 1912, Palmerston North High School was split into two single-sex schools: Palmerston North Girls' High School and Palmerston North Boys High School.

chool Life

All students are encouraged to participate in the wide range of opportunities made available to them, whether that be academic, cultural or sporting pursuits. Many national and international successes are celebrated in the daily assemblies.

The school's mission is to "Develop educated men of outstanding character" and the core values are:

Most of the school's approximately 1700 students are day boys from Palmerston North and surrounding townships such as Ashhurst, Levin, and Feilding. Around 170 boys are housed in an onsite boarding hostel - Murray House (Also known as College House), which forms one of the six 'Clubs' into which the school is divided, competing annually in various sports competitions for the Shand Shield. The other five 'Clubs' are: Albion (Navy Blue), Vernon (Green), Gordon (Sky Blue), Phoenix (Red) and Kia Ora (Gold).

In September 2006 the school had an outbreak of tuberculosis in which a substantial number of students have contracted a latent form of tuberculosis, as well as a small amount of students having active tuberculosis. Location

Palmerston North Boys' High School is located on Featherston Street, between the intersections of Rangitikei Street and North Street.North of the school is Queen Elizabeth College and the Northern Bowling Club.West of the school is Westpac Bank and Rangitikei St.College House is located in the South East, on the corner of Featherston and North Street.

Clubs

Palmerston North Boys' High School currently has 6 clubs (Houses). With the exception of Kia Ora and Phoenix, The clubs are named after former Rectors of the school. Murray, also known as College House, is comprised solely of the school's boarding students

* Gordon - Light Blue singlet with White shorts.
* Albion - Dark Blue singlet with White shorts.
* Murray - Black singlet and Yellow shorts.
* Kia Ora - Yellow/Gold singlet with White shorts.

Within New Zealand, the school is prominent for its success in cricket, and it has won the Gillette Cup more times than any other school. It is known for producing future Black Caps, under the cricket development program employed by the school, which allows talent to be identified and nurtured successfully. It has also experienced success nationally in other sports such as soccer, badminton, squash hockey and rugby.

The 1st XV play in an all white strip. Other rugby teams from Boys' High are likely to play in blue and white hooped jerseys, similar to Auckland or St Kentigern College
