Jean-Lou Chameau (born
1953 ) is acivil engineer and the current president ofCalifornia Institute of Technology . Previously he served as a provost of theGeorgia Institute of Technology . He then obtained his Ph.D in civil engineering from
Stanford University . In1980 he joinedPurdue University , where he subsequently became full professor in civil engineering and head of thegeotechnical engineering program. In1991 , he was nominated director of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering atGeorgia Tech .Chameau became president of Caltech on
