Lesla-Lar is a scientist in the bottle city of
Kandor , and an exact double of Kara Zor-El. Jealous of Supergirl's fame and life, Lesla-Lar invents a device that causes Supergirl to lose her powers. Now a normal human, Supergirl takes on her secret identity of Linda Lee full time and is adopted by Fred and Edna Davners. Lesla-Lar then uses another device to switch places with Linda, and assume the role of Supergirl for herself. She is able to convinceSuperman that she is Supergirl, and secretly meets withLex Luthor to convince him to kill the Man of Steel. ["Action Comics" #280 (September 1961)] Luckily,Krypto the Superdog realizes that Lesla-Lar is an imposter, and manages to send her back to Kandor. ["Action Comics" #281 (Oct. 1961)] In "Action Comics" #282 (November 1961), Linda's powers are restored byMister Mxyzptlk ; Lesla-Lar is arrested by the Kandorian police and her power sapping machine is destroyed.Lesla-Lar returns in "Action Comics" #297 (February 1963). This time she switches placs with Lena Thorul, the sister of
Lex Luthor , who is also a double for Supergirl. She releases three Kryptonian criminals from thePhantom Zone and enlists their help to recover a cache of forbidden Kryptonian weapons. After finding the cache, one of the criminals, Kru-el, tests one of the weapons on Lesla-Lar, and disintegrates her.Lesla-Lar's final appearance is in "Superman Family" #206 (March-April 1981). After her body was disintegrated by Kru-el, her intelligence managed to survive in a disembodied state. The process has affected her sanity, as she now believes she and Supergirl are sisters. Lesla-Lar invades Supergirl's mind and temporarily manages to expel Supergirl from her body. Supergirl's foster parents, Fred and Edna Danvers, confront Lesla-Lar and tell her they are convinced she is not their real daughter. The blow to Lesla-Lar's confidence is enough to allow Supergirl to reenter her body and force out Lesla-Lar. Lesla-Lar's mental energies are dispersed on the astral plane.
Powers and abilities
Lesla-Lar, like all Kryptonians under a yellow sun, gains a number of super powers. They include vast super strength, speed & stamina; various extra sensory and vision powers (including super hearing, x-ray vision, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, and heat vision); tremendous lung capacity and super breath (wind and ice); invulnerability and flight.
