It is a subsidiary of First Merchants Corporation, and is headquartered in Columbus, and has a regional office in Cincinnati. Commerce provides a variety of banking services to small- and mid-sized businesses.
Within its business-only niche, Commerce National Bank is known for its specialty in health-care finance. This specialty has garnered it the reputation as the bank for dentists, physicians, veterinarians, and other health-care practitioners throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Dr. James Newton, a professor at the Ohio State University, serves as the bank's Chief Economic Adviser. In 2003, First Merchants Corporation acquired Commerce National Bank and joined CNB with the other First Merchants affiliate banks.
Commerce National Bank is the second largest bank in the United States bearing the name "Commerce," behind Commerce Bancshares, a retail bank headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
