Al 'Aziziyah

El 'Azizia ( _ar. العزيزيه ) is one of the municipalities of Libya, located in the Northwest of the country, 55 km Southwest of Tripoli and a major trade centre of Sahel Jeffare. Al 'Azizia is also the name of the municipality's capital.

Recording meteorological parameters in Libya started in the Ottoman Empire (1551-1911). Temperature archives for some old meteorological stations are available in the climate directorate at the Libyan National Meteorological Centre (LNMC).

On September 13, 1922, a temperature of 57.7°C (135.9°F) was recorded in the city of Al 'Aziziyah. According to the annual temperature observation book written in the Italian language and issued by R. Ufficio centrale dimeteorologia e geodinamica in Rome, this is the highest temperature ever to be recorded on Earth.
