Decentralised computer system

Decentralised computer system

A decentralised computer system is a network without a server. All of the computers are thick clients so have their own storage as there is no server to store information or for back ups. An example of this would be a linear network topology without a server. Data packets travel slowly over the network and if there is a fault in one of the connecting wires the whole network will break down. All computers have to be updated individually with new software, unlike a centralised computer system.Decentralised systems still enable file sharing and all computers can share peripherals such as printers and scanners as well as modems, allowing all the computers in the network to connect to the internet.
