Infinimode Systems Inc. is a communications equipment manufacturer specializing in voice communications bridging, or radio interoperability.

Communications InteroperabilityIn the Post 9/11 world, communications have become a focus for First Responders. Across the country, First Responder agencies (Local, State, & Federal) had each established their own radio and communications systems with different frequencies and designs. Frequently within the same town, the Fire and Police agencies couldnt communicate with each other because of differing networks. As a result, these agencies had a difficult time coordinating their activities. The attacks on 9/11 put this difficulty on center stage. In response to this need several companies developed radio interoperability systems (RIOS) products that allowed radios of different frequencies totalkto each other. They all operate bybridgingthe communications from one frequency, through a device, and out to other devices on other frequencies. These connections are calledtalkgroups”. Physically, RIOSs have a number of ports (different designs have different #’s of ports) which each connect to a radio (HF, UHF, VHF, 800 MHz, etc…) each tuned to different frequencies. Each port is then represented in the Graphical User Interface as anasset”. Most RIOS designs can accommodate other communications devices in addition to radios. Once devices are connected to the ports, and the assets are represented in the GUI, an operator can connect them to each other intalkgroups”.This technology solves the technological problem of the inability of first responders to communicate. The next step is to get them to allow the equipment to communicate. The local, regional, state & Federal agencies are beginning to coordinate with each other to remove the procedural and political barriers to communication.
