Ian David Marsden (Ian D. Marsden) (born
August 24 ,1967 ) is acartoonist ,designer andartist . Born inGreenwich Village , (New York City ) Currently he resides and works inLos Angeles andSouthern France with his wife Sheryl and their two daughters. Ian previously lived, studied and worked inZurich, Switzerland /New York /Paris, France /Barbados ,West Indies ,Santa Monica andCulver City .He has sold cartoons and illustrations to various international publications including
Mad Magazine ,The New Yorker and many others and his artwork has been seen in advertising campaigns and even onCoca Cola cans. He was nominated for theNational Cartoonist Society award in the [http://www.reuben.org/ncs/archive/divisions/others2.asp New Media category] in 2002.Ian was one of the very first Google Doodle creators for
Google.com starting in May 2000 with the [http://www.google.com/doodle.html abduction of the Google Logo by aliens] and also designed the character of the [http://www.google.com/doodle3.html Kangaroo Doodle] which ran on Google during theOlympic Summer Games inSydney, Australia .As a character designer he created Smoony the official mascot for the
Alpine Ski World Championship 2003 in St. Moritz, Switzerland. He was also contracted byExpo.02 - the 6th Swiss national exposition - to design the official mascot and entire character worlds for each of the arteplages.His first cartoons were published at age 16 in the Swiss satirical magazine Nebelspalter. He also wrote and illustrated a TV show at the same age for Swiss Television DRS and maintained an atelier in the old town of Zurich, the Niederdorf for several years. He has worked as an
art director ,illustrator andmultimedia artist internationally since then. In 2006 Ian was invited to draw theU.S. soccer team for theFootball Heroes book project which encompasses over 700 individual player portraits from current and classic soccer teams drawn by 50 illustrators from 17 different countries released in time for the2006 FIFA World Cup inGermany .As the creative director for LA based Ja-Tail Enterprises, LLC (distributed through
Universal Music Group ) he has designed album covers andwebsites for artists such asLa Toya Jackson .Ian studied
graphic design ,illustration and in 2001 graduated from theanimation department Academy of Entertainment Technology,Santa Monica College .Ian is currently working on a
graphic novel ,children's books and a TV show project.Exhibitions
Ian has participated in many group exhibitions internationally. Some of Ian's large scale
pop art canvases depicting the likes ofJohn Wayne ,Clark Gable ,Judy Garland andFrank Sinatra are on permanent display in the restaurant at the historicCulver Hotel where Ian used to have a studio on the second floor. (As a footnote: The hotel bar 'Duke's Hideaway' was also designed by Ian.)Books
