It pursues this by raising concerns related to the quality of learning, providing services related to assessment, professional development of teachers, curriculum and pedagogy, and influencing educational policy, especially in the realm of assessment.It takes asystems approach in order to improve the quality of learning. The company got significant media coverage (especially on India Today ["What's wrong with our Teaching", "India Today", 19 November 2006 ] ) when it released its study on the state of Indian education the children were getting in the 'top' schools in the five metros (Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore). The study found that even in the 'top' schools in India, the students seemed to learn mechanically and was only able to answer questions based on recall. It also found there were concerning levels of

Educational Initiative's flagship product is ASSET, a test conducted on school premises measuring learning in five subjects (English,
Mathematics ,Science ,Social Studies andHindi ). Feedback is given to individual students and the collective results of students are fed back to schools. An online version is also available and is intended for usage from home on an individual basis.Venture Capital Funding
On March 2008 the company received an undisclosed amount of first round funding from Bangalore-based Footprint Ventures, Chennai-based IFMR Trust and Maryland, US-headquartered Novak Biddle Venture Partners.
