WHLV-TV is a Christian television station serving Orlando, Florida, licensed to nearby Cocoa. The station is an owned-and-operated station of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, and broadcasts on UHF channel 52. It also holds a construction permit for a digital signal on channel 51 (which will be launched on the day of the analog-to-digital conversion; see below). The station originates from the facilities of its former sister station, WTGL.

As of June 2008, WHLV's digital signal is not yet in operation.

TBN-DTV|52These subchannels are scheduled for local availablility in February 2009.

Under the previous ownership of Good Life Broadcasting, then-WTGL-TV applied for a digital signal on channel 53, but the request was dismissed on account of the station's license being put up for sale (Good Life Broadcasting effectively moved the intellectual unit of the original WTGL-TV to what was then WLCB-TV, which today bears the WTGL call sign).

Channels 52 and 53 will become unavailable for broadcasts after the analog television shutdown scheduled for February 17, 2009. As a result, WHLV has chosen channel 51 -- the highest frequency available for post-transition DTV -- as its final digital channel selection, [http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101234897&formid=387&fac_num=24582 CDBS Print ] ] but must wait for WOGX in Ocala, Florida (which will continue its digital broadcasts on its current pre-DTV-transition channel 31) to turn off its analog signal before WHLV can turn on its digital signal.

History

The station was originally founded August 16, 1982 as WTGL-TV by Good Life Broadcasting (WTGL stands for The Good Life). The station was initially a blend of mostly Christian shows with some general entertainment programming but evolved to an all Christian format by 1985. By then they affiliated with the Christian Television Network, which owned and still owns Tampa Bay's WCLF-TV Channel 22. WTGL was the second station to be part of the Christian Television Network. The station would end affiliations with CTN in the late 1990s, but it continued to operate as a predominantly religious station, changing its affiliations to the Total Living Network and Faith TV.

On December 12, 2000, after the FCC began to permit duopolies, Good Life Broadcasting signed on a second station, WLCB-TV Channel 45.

On September 28, 2006, it was announced that WTGL-TV had been sold to the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The two stations shared a studio at the corner of Michigan Street and I-4 in Orlando until June 2007, when both stations moved to the former studios of WKCF in Lake Mary. In July 2007, WTGL's calls were changed to its current calls, WHLV-TV. This made the WTGL callsign available to the former WLCB, which officially took the WTGL calls in mid-September 2007.
