Career

carborough

Jackson began his career at the then third division club, Scarborough, as a trainee in August 1997.cite web| last =| first =| authorlink =| coauthors =| title =Richard Jackson| work =Soccerbase| publisher =Racing Post| date =| url =http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=13111| format =| doi =| accessdate =2007-11-08 ] He made his first appearance for the club in a league game in November 1997 against Doncaster Rovers but only made two appearances in the 1997-98 season. In March 1998, he signed his first professional contract at Scarborough but a year later, moved to Premier League club, Derby County for a fee of £30,000, having made 22 league and cup appearances for Scarborough in the 1998-99 season.

Derby County

Jackson joined Derby County in March 1999. His first game for Derby came in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United in May 2000, which was shortly followed by an appearance in a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea. He made three appearances in the 2000-01 season followed by seven appearances in the 2001-02 season, at the end of which Derby were relegated to the Championship. He broke into the first team on a regular basis in the 2002-03 season, during which he made 21 appearances, and was offered a new contract at the end of the season. [cite news| last =| first =| coauthors =| title =Derby boosted by Jackson's return | work =| pages =| language =| publisher =BBC| date =2005-04-07| url =http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/4420811.stm| accessdate =2007-11-08 ] Jackson made 27 appearances in the 2005-06 season, which was interrupted by another groin injury that saw him ruled out of first-team action for all of September and October 2005 and a hamstring injury that ruled him out for several weeks in the spring of 2006.
