Manning River Times " newspaper, becoming assistant editor. She moved toSydney and worked forNew Idea andTV Week for a few weeks, before becoming a reporter for Channel Ten's Eyewitness News. In 1981 she was signed to Channel 9, reporting forNational Nine News and then presenting the 11.30 Morning News. She moved to the 'Today Show' withSteve Liebmann in 1986 and joined 60 Minutes in 1996.Hayes was briefly married to advertising entrepreneur John Singleton in 1991, his 4th wife.
