It has been ranked 287th out of 1511 Texas public middle schools (top 20%). For their 2006-2007 school year's yearbook their theme and title was "It's All About 'U'". The school received a national award, 'Best Middle School Newscast for 2006' by Channel One News, a daily news service for schools across the nation. The news is a big part of Huffines, and the report is called 'Channel 39 News'. It includes a lead and a sports report. Much of the news reporters (selected/auditioned students) appeared on Channel 1 with their opinion on school safety, during the 2006 first semester. There is a new cast each semester.
