Filip De Man

Filip De Man

Filip Emiel Julien De Man is a Flemish politician and member of the Vlaams Belang. He was born November 11, 1955 in Roeselare and lives in Vilvoorde.

In 1991, he became a member of the Chamber of Representatives for the Vlaams Belang (formerly known as the Vlaams Blok). Within his party, he belongs to the most right-wing group with a pronounced anti-immigrant stance. It is reported that Filip De Man once said that a muslim cannot be a democrat. The Vlaams Belang is among the largest parties in Belgium, and supports increasing restrictions on immigration. Its predecessor, the Vlaams Blok, was dissolved after the Court of Cassation upheld a ruling of the Court of Appeal of Ghent, which ruled that it was guilty of "permanent incitement to segregation and racism".

Many national and international observers describe the Vlaams Belang as far right, whereas the party describes itself as conservative.
