George Harvey Bickley (
25 February 1868 –24 December 1924 ) was an AmericanBishop of theMethodist Episcopal Church , elected in 1920.Birth and Family
He was born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . He was from an old Philadelphia family, his father and grandfather being local elders and church builders. Indeed, his grandfather gave up a fortune and was disowned for becoming aMethodist .George entered the Traveling Ministry of the Philadelphia Annual Conference in 1890. His uncle and six of his cousins were also in the Methodist ministry. One of these cousins was Bishop
Charles Wesley Burns . Rev. Bickley was at one time chairman of Philadelphia Sunday meetings. He was Area Secretary of theCentenary of American Methodism. Also prior to his election to theEpiscopacy , he served as aPastor and a District Superintendent.Bishop Bickley died on
24 December 1924 in Philadelphia. He was buried inSt. James Cemetery in Olney.elected Writings
