Tribe: Neophemini
Genera

Neophema
Neopsephotus

The tribe Neophemini contains two genera, Neophema and Neopsephotus and belongs to the subfamily Platycercinae, or Broad-tailed parrots. The Bourke's Parrot (Neopsephotus bourkii) is sometimes considered a member of the genus Neophema. A close relative to the tribe is the Budgerigar (tribe Melopsittacini). Formerly, the Platycercini tribe was also considered closely related, but this is apparently incorrect[citation needed].

In an alternative classification, the Neophemini are sunk in the broad-tailed parrots, which are only considered a tribe, Platycercini. More recent research[citation needed] suggests that the broad-tailed parrots may indeed be a subfamily, but that the Neophemini are almost certainly invalid and should form a tribe.
