Brad Carvey

Brad Carvey is an engineer, designer of the first wire-wrapped Video Toaster, from a design idea by NewTek founder Tim Jenison. He's also the brother of Saturday Night Live veteran Dana Carvey, who has performed a character based on Brad since he first started doing stand-up.

Dana's nerdy character Garth Algar in the Wayne's World comedy sketches and movies is based on Brad. In the film "Wayne's World 2", Garth is wearing a Video Toaster T-Shirt.

Brad is a hardware and software engineer, who designed and built his first computer in the 1970s. He also wrote an operating system and applications for it. He created products for the C64 and the Amiga computer. He has worked in research at Lockheed Space Systems Division, Diasonics Medical, and Sandia Labs.

Brad has also done visual effects for feature films and TV shows, including the opening title sequence for "Men In Black".

He is also a writer, columnist and editor of hundreds of articles about technology.

In 1992 Dana and Brad both won Primetime Emmys. Brad's was for "Outstanding achievement in Engineering" for the development of the Video Toaster.
