Adarsha Vidya Mandir is one of the largest secondary schools in Lalitpur, Nepal. It currently has more than 5,000 students in grades 1 through 12. It is a secondary school with a strong mathematics, science, and English background.

History

Adarsha Vidya Mandir was founded by the veteran pioneer of education in AVM launch, the revered late Mr. S.N.B. Shrestha in 2022 B.S. He began the school with only 120 students, including day scholars and boarders, at a rented building known as Bhairab Bhavan, now converted into the Himalaya Hotel at Kupondol. AVM has now built six modern buildings, a spacious playground, and a basketball court.

Since its founding AVM has emphasized quality education with a view to providing skilled manpower to the country. Many alumni of this school are now doctors, engineers, professors, agriculturists, lawyers, scientists, and political leaders. It is a matter of privilege for A.V.M. that as dreamt by late Mr. S.N.B. Shrestha, now the products of A.V.M. are serving in different fields of society. Many of them are doctors, engineers, professors, agriculturists, scientists and political leaders too. A.V.M. has special place and name among the educational institutes in Nepal. Its performance is appreciated in “Academic World”. A.V.M. has maintained records in S.L.C. results over the years, with cent percentage pass out almost every year. It is in this background that A.V.M. decided to launch 10+2 programme from the year 2058, in Science and Management faculty. The programme is run in separate building purchased for the purpose. The compound includes the spacious playground for the student. A.V.M. always gives priority for excellence in education. It does not compromise at the cost of quality. It has experienced and well qualified teachers to teach at higher secondary level. They are appointed on merit and performance basis. They are available for any guidance and help if the student desire at any time. It has offered higher education at moderate cost with a view to making it affordable to all.

Mission and Vision

BE GOOD and DO GOOD is the motto of A.V.M. The school wants to mould and shape the character of students with an objective of making them good mannered, disciplined and skilled. It wants its products to leave an imprint on the minds of countrymen. It cares for the character building and academic excellence. It monitors their performance regularly and provide counselling as and when needed.

A.V.M. believes in the true spirit of education that makes the students self-confident, aware, optimist and tactful to cope with the problems faced by today’s young generation. It gives them every opportunity to improve on their existing understanding and awareness of life. It feels that once a student becomes a good citizen, he will succeed later in life.

Students’ Service and Facilities

The interior and designing of all the labs have been accomplished as per the requirement for the practical work. Complete range of equipment and instruments have been arranged in proper set up and systematically. To enhance students knowledge acquired on theoretical study and for thorough understanding, emphasis is very much laid upon 1:8 teacher - students ratio during the practical Pds.

Computer Lab

The school owns a spacious computer lab hall with over 40 computers. Students of both the faculties have been offered the course in this subject. Students can also avail of the internet browsing service in a specific time for reference note and out of text study materials downloading.

Library

A.V.M. library has a large number of reference books on every related subject. They are collected as per the requisition put forward by the teachers and students. Students are encouraged to make use of reference books by the teachers. They are also welcome to recommend for those books not available in the library but essential for their course.

Class Rooms

With an objective of providing thorough teaching learning environment the seating arrangement of the class room has been adjusted to accommodate not more than 25 to 30 students. The classrooms are well-ventilated, spacious, with enough sun light.

Area and environments

A. V. M. is located in a suitable place for all types of commuters. The local bus stops near to the school are Man Bhawan and Lagankhel. It is approximately 4 to 5 minutes walking distance.

Eight and half Ropanis of area of land expands in a peaceful environment and greenery with a beautiful garden, lawn, basket ball court, academic building and shed for table tennis boards.

Hostel

The school has made arrangement of accommodation in the hostel. The hostel is close to the school building. Strict code of conduct is regulated through out the period of students stay. Neat and clean dormitory and hygienic mess are attractions for the hostellers. Balanced, nutritious and hygienic food is supplied at a moderate cost.

Cafeteria

Students can be assured of hygienic food and filtered water provided by the school cafe. Hot and cold drinks are available with varieties of snacks. It supplies food at moderate rate to the full satisfaction of the students. Cafe considers items as per the students request other than those in the menu.

Transportation

Bus services are available from all important city centers of Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

Extra Curricular Activities

To enrich the students’ overall growth and development apart from the regular classes, school focuses on various sports activities like volley ball, basket ball. Table tennis and other indoor games are conducted and for the sports like cricket and football, students are taken to the nearby fields.

Educational trips

Field trips are arranged to nearby areas to enhance the practical knowledge related to the course. Besides such trips as a part of recreation, annual picnic is also held to give more opportunity for students’ socialization process.

Cultural programs

With an objective for the personality development, different stage activities are encouraged and scheduled. Special guidance is provided wherever necessary.

Internal evaluation

Monthly progress reports depending on the numbers of class tests held in that particular month after having the judgement on a graded basis concerning the students’ conduction on Homework; Note Presentation; Classroom Performance etc. will be sent to the parents every month.

A.V.M. regulates 3 terminal examinations in a session before the board exam (including preboard). General Parents, Teachers meetings are held after each terminal exam.
