lacertid (walllizard ) endemic to two of the westernCanary Islands ,El Hierro andLa Gomera . On the neighboring islandsTenerife andLa Palma it is replaced by its close relative "Gallotia galloti " (Maca-Meyer "et al." 2003). It has been introduced by humans on the Portuguese island ofMadeira .There are two subspecies:
