Count of Tours

Count of Tours

The counts of Tours were the medieval feudal suzerains ruling over the region of Touraine in France with their capital at Tours. The first known count of Tours was the famous Hugh of the Etichonen family. After three generations, the county passed to the equally famous Robert the Strong, father of the Capetians. In 941, the county passed to the Counts of Blois and in 1044 to the Counts of Anjou, whence it follows their eventful history.

The county of Tours is also claimed by the French noble house of Albert, whose highest title is the Dukedom of Luynes.
