JOVE ("Jonathan's Own Version of Emacs") is an
open-source ,Emacs -liketext editor , primarily intended forUnix-like operating systems . It also supportsMS-DOS andMicrosoft Windows . JOVE was inspired byGosling Emacs but is much smaller and simpler, lackingMocklisp . It was originally created in 1983 by Jonathan Payne while atLincoln-Sudbury Regional High School inMassachusetts ,USA on aPDP-11 minicomputer . [cite newsgroup
