"Hell's Pit" is the ninth studio album by Insane Clown Posse. Released on August 31, 2004, the album is the final chapter of the Joker's Card series. "Hell's Pit" is the second part of the sixth Joker's Card, "The Wraith", written with the opposite intent of its counterpart, "", "Hell's Pit" is intended to illustrate the horrors of hell itself. Preceding the release of "Hell's Pit", Joseph Bruce stated the album's sound was intended as a throwback to the minimalistic sound of "Carnival of Carnage", particularly its darker second half.cite web |url=http://www.insaneclownposse.com/page.php?page_id=icp_wf_20040426 |title=Weekly Freekly: Number 669 |accessdate=2008-08-17 |last=Bruce |first=Joseph |date=June 25, 2004 |publisher=Psychopathic Records |archiveurl=http://web.archive.org/web/20040820062709/http://www.insaneclownposse.com/page.php?page_id=icp_wf_20040426 |archivedate=2004-04-26 ] Bruce also stated that it would contain less rock elements and singing, and that it would not feature guest appearances. "Bowling Balls" samples the drum beat of Madonna's "Justify My Love," which had been based upon Public Enemy's instrumental "Security of the First World". Many of the songs feature Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope fictitiously dying, to be sent to Hell, depicted in the album as a place void of all hope and peace, where those who do not atone for their sins and follow the ways of Shangri-La will presumably be sent upon their death. Bruce described the album as "Horror tale after Horror tale, mixed in with songs that describe hell" and stated that it was the darkest, most painful work he had ever done.cite web |url=http://www.insaneclownposse.com/carnival/iframe.php?page_id=icp_history_8 |title=Who R ICP > History > The Wraith: Hell's Pit |accessdate=2008-05-02 |publisher=Psychopathic Records] Two versions of the album were released, each containing a different DVD. One release featured a live concert and a twelve-minute music video for the song "Real Underground Baby", and another featured a short film for the song "Bowling Balls", which was the first 3-D film shot in high-definition video.

Message

This album completes our Dark Carnival story. Now, for the rest of your lives, we invite you to sit back and take it all in. We hope each Joker's Card will live on forever. To finally complete what we started 13 years ago is amazing, yet we don't want it to end. But it must.

The story is now completed exactly how it was meant to be. We listened with the spirits and brought forth all 6 Joker's Cards. We believed in each one as they arrived, and tried to spread its message as far and wide as possible. We delivered, and as life went on, each Card's Era provided us with incredible memories and stories that will last forever. The fact is, each Joker's Card is somebody's favorite, somewhere, and that's enough to give them life. They will be there for you all to call upon, for the rest of eternity.

From Carnival of Carnage to Hell's Pit, may all 6 Joker's Cards rest comfortably in time. Thank you all for listening.
