Longwall Street

Longwall Street

Longwall Street is a street in central Oxford, England. It runs along the western flank of Magdalen College, separated by an imposing and high 15th century stone wall for the length of the street, behind which is the deer park in the college. The street is actually named after the old city wall to the west of the street, now largely hidden in the grounds of New College.

Holywell Street ajoins the street at the northern end and it continues north as St Cross Road. To the south, there is a junction with the High Street.

William Morris (later Lord Nuffield) originally ran his fledgling car business in this street with a garage here in 1902, before moving to Cowley, a suburb to the east of Oxford, to become the Morris Motor Company in 1910. A small display with information can be found at the northern end of the street.
