- Jan Veizer
Ján Veizer, born in
Slovakia , is anemeritus professor ofEarth Science s at theUniversity of Ottawa and holder of the NSERC/Noranda/CIFAR Industrial Chair in Earth System Isotope and Environmental Geochemistry. He is an award-winningisotope geochemist ; his research intersts have included the use of chemical and isotopic techniques in determining Earth's climatic and environmental history [ [http://www.nserc.ca/partners/profile_detail_e.asp?pid=160 NSERC - Chairholder Profile ] ] .Dr. Veizer has received the 1987
W.W. Hutchison Medal for young individuals making exceptional advances in Canadian earth science research; the 1991Willet G. Miller Medal for outstanding contributions in geology; the 1992Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize ,which carried a 1.55 millioneuro value, awarded for understanding of the geochemistry of sediments; the 1995Logan Medal which is the Geological Association of Canada's highest honour [http://www.esd.mun.ca/~gac/MEDALS/medal.html] ; the 2000Bancroft Award for contributions furthering the public understanding of the Earth sciences. He has researched
global warming but attributes more of the warming to non-human influences.
