- Fighting Spirit magazine
FSM (Fighting Spirit Magazine) is a monthly
professional wrestling andmixed martial arts magazine published in the United Kingdom byUncooked Media , the company behind special interest publications such as Neo. The magazine launched its first issue on ThursdayApril 13 2006 , with a aim of catering for consumers wanting news and reviews on both sectors.FSM's editor, James Denton, is a qualified martial artist and was a professional wrestling trainee, deflecting much of the criticism that "sheet writers" are not qualified to criticise athletes because they have never been in the ring. He used to be seen in the now defunct feature "How Tough Is Enough" training at the FWA Academy. Feature columnists include professional wrestlers (
Lance Storm ,Dan Severn ), MMA fighters (Severn), authors (Bryan Alvarez ,Scott Keith ,RD Reynolds ), industry experts (Bill Apter ) and guest columns from prominent wrestling and MMA websites (Dave Scherer of PW Insider and Mike Sloan ofSherdog ).It is a common misunderstanding that this is an "Apter Mag" due to the involvement of Bill Apter and apparent similarities to other titles he has worked on. However, Apter's role is that of columnist and he has no editorial power on the title outside of this position.
FSM Year-End Awards
The
FSM Awards are the annual industry accolades awarded by FSM. Unlike other industry awards (notably The Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards), the FSM Awards reflect the magazine's British origins by actively considering British wrestlers, fighters, announcers and promotions. It also has a dedicated category specifically for British wrestlers/fighters, The Victoria Cross (whose previous winners have included Pac and Nigel McGuinness). This is part of the publication's oft-cited goal to raise the profile of the wrestlers and the wrestling industry in the United Kingdom. The FSM Awards are also notable for the distinctive titles of each category, such as Miracle Violence Connection Award (best tag team), LL Cool J Award (best comeback) and Kent Walton Award (best announcer).
