Star Hawkins was a science fiction detective feature published by DC Comics in their "Strange Adventures" title. He first appears in "Strange Adventures" issue #114 (March 1960), then appeared in about every third issue until #162 (1964). He later came back in issue #173 (1965) and again appeared in about every third issue until #185 (1966). He was created by John Broome and Mike Sekowsky.

Fictional character biography

Star was a private detective in the 21st Century (the year 2079, to be exact), who had a robot receptionist, Ilda. The series wasn't totally serious, being played something for laughs. For instance, Ilda (who had a sort of protective "crush" on her human employer) often used her robot strength and other abilities to assist Hawkins solve his cases, but made sure to do this in such a way that Hawkins believed he had succeeded on his own.

In "DC Comics Presents" #33 (1981), a 'Whatever happened to?....' tale, set in 2092, Star retired, as did Ilda. He married heiress Stella Sterling, while his receptionist Ilda married her robot bodyguard, Automan, himself the star of a short series in "Tales of the Unexpected".

Death

At some stage in his career, Hawkins was transported back to the 20th Century. While living there, he became good friends with Captain Comet, another space-based hero. At some undetermined date Hawkins lost his private investigator lisence, and by 2006 was an elderly man living on Hardcore Station. He was murdered by an unknown telepath.

Other versions

A version of Star Hawkins appears in the Twilight mini-series by Howard Chaykin and Jose Luis Garcia Lopez in 1990.
