Besides being the official tourism and events bureau for the city of São Paulo, São Paulo Tourism is the administrator for the
Anhembi Convention Center and the Interlagos Raceway. A publicly traded company, its majority shareholder is the City Government of São Paulo, with a 77% holding.São Paulo Tourism's mission is to position and promote the city of São Paulo as the business, knowledge and entertainment capital of Latin America, highlighting its avant-garde and cultural character, seeking to strengthen its image as a tourist destination, focusing on stimulating the various sectors of its economy and the quality of life of its citizens.
SP Turis (short form) operates to make São Paulo a benchmark destination in terms of entertainment and leisure, much more than just a business center, offering a multi-sensory tourist experience. Anyone who visits the city needs to live culture around the clock, sampling the cuisine of over 52 nationalities at its 12 thousand restaurants to know that this is a world-class city. To this end, various projects are being carried out with the objective of encouraging tourists who visit São Paulo mainly on business to stay longer in the city to sample the cultural wealth of the city that is considered the benchmark in Latin America when the subject is new tendencies, knowledge, culture, events or health. Among this projects, there are attractions like the Turismetrô (sightseeing on foot and by subway with specialized guides), and themed itineraries for all tastes and pocketbooks.
Since January of 2005, Caio Luiz de Carvalho is in charge of the presidency of São Paulo Tourism. He has a wide experience in the tourism field, having been the president of Embratur (national tourism agency), president of the executive council of the World Tourism Organization and Minister of Sports and Tourism. In São Paulo Tourism, he develops projects so that SP Turis will contribute to the city’s development, through the social inclusion power that tourism has.
